Benefits of Resurrection
Ps Phillip Lee
Jesus is different
from any of the world greatest inventor, president/ king and philosopher
that we have known. Why is Jesus so special? - because of the empty tomb and
His resurrection- Jesus is lifted up and he has gone away to prepare a place
for you and me. Jesus will come back again to claim his church. When Jesus
mentioned that “destroy the temple and I will raised it up in 3 days- he was
referring to his own resurrection”. God the Father, the Son and the Holy
Spirit were involved in raising up Jesus.
Acts 10:40
40but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to
be seen.
1 Peter 3:18
18For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the
unrighteous, to bring
you to God. He was put to death in the body but made
alive by the Spirit,
Romans 8:11
11And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living
in you, he
who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your
mortal bodies through
his Spirit, who lives in you.
John 10:18
18No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have
authority
to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I
received from
my Father."
THE BENEFITS OF
RESURRECTION ARE:
1. OUR LIFE
2. OUR
JUSTIFICATION
3. OUR QUICKENING
4. OUR RESURRECTION
5. OUR JUDGE
-----------------------------
1. OUR LIFE
John14:19
19Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see
me. Because
I live, you also will live.
To God 1000 years
is but 1 day, hence our lifespan is probably only 1-1/2 hour. In recognition
of the shortness of life, we are to live wisely, invest wisely and be wise
in God’s sight. As believers, we no longer live for ourselves, we live for
Jesus- which should be our sole purpose of living- live for Him, like Him
and with Him. We should not be ruled and reigned by our mood, situations,
circumstances..etc- and to pray, worship, give, sing…etc only when we feel
good
2. OUR
JUSTIFICATION
It is a common
occurrence for one to die for a cause, for someone. Jesus die for all- and
the Father and the Holy Spirit accept this ultimate act of sacrifice - hence
we are justified including our sins, filthiness, wickedness ..etc. Even in
the past – when the High Priest entered the Holies of Holies – he will be
smitten to death if the sacrifice is not acceptable. Once justified by the
resurrection of Christ , there is no more condemnation- it is forgive and
forget.
Rm 4:25
25He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life
for our
justification.
2nd
Corinthians 5:21
21God made him who had no sin to be sin[a]
for us, so that in him we might
become the righteousness of God.
3. OUR QUICKENING
The same spirit
dwell within us- to quicken us. We should welcome the workings of the
spirit – as pentacostal christians.
Romans 8:11
11And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living
in you, he
who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your
mortal bodies
through his Spirit, who lives in you.
3. OUR RESURRECTION
Jesus presented us
with resurrection hope – dead or alive and we will raised up in due course.
1st
Corinthians 15:19-23
19If
only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all
men.
20But
Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who
have fallen asleep.
21For
since death came through a man, the resurrection of
the dead comes also
through a man.
22For
as in Adam all die, so in Christ all
will be made alive.
23But
each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when
he comes, those
who belong to him
5. OUR JUDGE
Jesus will come
back to judge the world, and we will get our due rewards and crowns, God
will say welcome and well done and hopefully not how come. Hence, it is our
duty to share the gospel for a good cause in due course.
Acts 17:31
31For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by
the man he
has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising
him from the
dead."
Acts 10:42
42He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is
the one
whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.

BAD MARKETING FOR
CHRIST
Ps Rishi Anandani
In one chapter in
Philippians, Paul speaks of the gospel in different ways -it is
mentioned 6 times and as
follows:
5because of your
partnership in the gospel
from the first day until now,
7It is right
for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my
heart; for
whether I am in chains or
defending and confirming the gospel,
all of you
share in God's grace with me.
12Now I want
you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really
served
to
advance the gospel.
16The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the
defense
of the
gospel.
17The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely,
supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.[c]
27Whatever
happens, conduct yourselves in a manner
worthy of the gospel
of Christ.
Then,
whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my
absence, I will know
that you stand firm in one spirit,
contending as one man
for the faith of the gospel
21For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
22If I am to go on living in the
body, this will mean fruitful labor
for me.
He
lived for the gospel- in business terms, he lived to do marketing of the
gospel. Even as the Gospel is full of good teaching, why is it that not all
the people are embracing it. I believe one of the reasons that we are not
seeing a large number of conversion is due to lack of understanding or bad
marketing. Like successful companies esp Starbucks and their track records
and expansion worldwide up to 16,000 over outlets today , in positioning
the Gospel as a product to meet certain needs and demands, one key
ingredient is good customer experience. The gospel need to be better
understood – so there is a positive feeling towards it- in the proper
perspective. We need to start looking outside–in rather than inside–out to
create a monumental shift – from the perspective and view of non believers.
In
order to make the gospel attractive to people, there are certain salient
points to note in the presentation, in the approach towards other religions,
in the lives of Christians, in their lifestyle and behavior, in their
conduct, in their financial welfare and well being, and handling of
addictions, weaknesses and temptations..etc
1.
Christian behavior and approach
Sometimes, there is a tendency to look down or put down other people’s
beliefs in an insensitive and insulting manner, due to the following
reasons:
Out
of excitement of discovering the truth
Out
of zeal for God
Our
of desire to see people open their eyes and convinced about the truth
This
can destroy our Christian witness, and create a bad name for Christianity.
We do not have to “look down” on other religions instead we should focus on
lifting Jesus up. Then we can start to bring light into the darkness of
these lives- bring Jesus to them and to their homes. Sad to say, there are
so many christians behaving in ways that are disgraceful, with the tendency
to offend and turn people off.
2.
Money
In
the area of money, there are preachers that preach a lot about money-
prosperity and cancellation of debts.etc. Whilst focusing on money, we
should be mindful that life has its ups and downs, and God may allow
poverty for a season and for a reason. Yet it is in this area,
in the business arena, where we can witness to non-christians for Jesus. We can
talk all we can about Jesus and salvation, but people are not going to hear
us if we don’t pay back our debts. As a business person, it would be hard
to get people to become believer if they have been swindled by a professing
Christians who are dishonest or Christians not paying their debts and
keeping their promises. Within the context of the church, giving and
stewardship go hand in hand, and a balanced understanding amongst the
congregation in respect of giving and tithes and stewardship can create
confidence in the leadership.
Mal 3:10
10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food
in my
house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will
not throw
open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that
you will not
have room enough for it.
Exodus 20:15, Exodus
20:17
15 "You shall not steal.
16 "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet
your
neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or
anything that belongs to your neighbor."
Psalms 37:21
21 The wicked borrow and do not repay,
but the righteous give generously;
3. Irresponsible Lifestyle
Irresponsible spending and bad
stewardship may create problems for ourselves over time- even stress and
sickness. In worse cases, they may grow into larger problems like
addictions- to alcohol, drugs, pornography. Gambling and addictions affect
relationships and ruined lives- and we should find meanings and purposes in
Jesus not by substance abuse, gambling, greed..etc. In gambling, we never
really win because that is how casino make monies- and most end up losers
most of the time.(Remember only 1 horse wins in a race and 9 horses lose- so
you know the answer)
In spite of many real life
cases, God wants us to be responsible spenders and good stewards of money.
We can allow the transforming power of Jesus to change our lives – miracles
still happen.
